Excellent food, friendly staff and wonderful surroundings.

Awesome prime rib, friendly people, great location. Scenic drive.

Here's our experience with the Point of Rocks.. we were told by a few people in the town of Whitefish that we must go to the Point of Rocks for dinner and have the prime rib and that it was going to be the best prime rib we've ever had! They said it's absolutely delicious and the place was beautiful with a waterfall in the back. So my husband and I get there and we walk through the doors and much to our surprise the inside was this very old divey dump. I knew right then and there that things were not going fulfill my expectations. My husband said come on honey let's give it to try, maybe looks are deceiving. I was like okay...but really against my gut instinct. So we decided to sit outside because the very few tables that are against the window upstairs where all taken. Even though we had a reservation and I mention to the guy we like to sit by the window. They could care less about my reservation and anything it said. So we went downstairs to the bar where the waitress upstairs informed us that she will take very good care of us. So we get down there and its a very ugly atmosphere. We tell the bartender that we're going to eat outside. Her personality was dull and unwelcoming. Felt like we were putting her out of her way and there was nobody down there but us for her to serve! We go outside and again much too are huge surprise there's a man made type of water feature with a fountain and a man made waterfall! The Whitefish locals were going on about how beautiful it is and when somebody says a waterfall in Montana I'm thinking the real deal. We each order the smallest order of prime rib which was 8 ounces for $18.95 each. It comes with a soup or salad, a baked potato or french fries and some kind of cheese toast. The salads arrive they were your average cafeteria style iceberg lettuce. The meals arrived and this 8 oz. piece of meat was chewy! The baked potato was undercooked and the cheese toast was nothing like cheese toast, it was sliced bread with a lot of butter on it. Needless to say I took 2 bites of food and pushed it aside. Maybe my taste is to refined. This stuff is just cafeteria food in my opinion. I've had really good prime rib; I mean really good, at the same price for a bigger cut! Needless to say, we didn't finish our food and we were up and out of there in 30 minutes. You can probably tell from this long winded review that I was utterly disappointed.

Great food and usually good service but this last time we didn't get greeted for at least five minutes, then we were told to seat ourselves. I was never offered a highchair or booster seat for my child and when the waitress came to take our order i asked for a highchair and she pointed and told me where they were located and then walked away without taking the order. I assumed she was grabbing the chair but after she returned 15 minutes later to take our order I realized she expected me to go get it myself. We have always left satisfied but the service this last time was so disappointing we ended up getting our food to go.

Everyone seems to love this place but having been there a few times I find it just average. The decor is nothing special, the food is fair, and the prices are high for what you get. Disclaimer, most people love their prime rib but I would rather go hungry than ever order prime rib which may be why I don't find Point of Rocks very good.
